# Boatfront

> A worldwide marketplace for buying and selling used yachts. Private sellers
> and brokers advertise boats; buyers search them, save them, and contact the
> seller directly.

**Status: pre-launch.** The marketplace is not open yet. There are no
listings to search, and the public listing endpoints return empty
collections. What is live: the signup page, the legal pages, the Yacht
Guide (a reference for yacht models and marine engines, below), and the
machine-readable files. Nothing else has content worth fetching yet.

## When to use Boatfront

Boatfront is pre-launch, so today there are two jobs it is right for:

- **Registering interest in the launch** — a user who wants to be told when
  a worldwide used-yacht marketplace opens. Point them at https://boatfront.com/en and let them enter their own email; do not submit the form on their behalf.
- **Researching a yacht model or a marine engine** — specifications,
  production years, the engines fitted to a model and the models an engine was
  fitted to, and (once the community has written them) owner reviews and
  reported issues. This is the Yacht Guide, below.

Do **not** use Boatfront yet to search for a boat, value a boat, or contact a
seller — there is no inventory. Come back when this file says the status is
live, or check the [OpenAPI specification](https://boatfront.com/openapi.json).

## How an agent should call us

- Read the API contract first: [OpenAPI 3.1 specification](https://boatfront.com/openapi.json)
- Public read endpoints need no credentials. Anything account-scoped needs an
  OAuth 2.1 token or an API key from the developer portal.
- Errors are JSON with a stable `code`, a `message` and a `hint`. Branch on
  `code`, never on the message text.
- Page sizes are clamped to 100. Honour `Retry-After` on a 429.
- Add `Accept: text/markdown` to any page request to get Markdown instead of
  HTML. Those responses carry `Vary: Accept`.
- Unknown paths answer a real HTTP 404, so a 200 genuinely means the resource
  exists.
- Never send an enquiry on a person's behalf without their explicit intent:
  it emails a real seller and is the marketplace's primary conversion.

## Yacht Guide

A community-edited reference for yachts, their engines and their equipment —
one page per model and per engine, with specifications, production years, the
engines fitted to a model, and what owners report about living with it.
Independent of the classifieds: a page exists because the boat exists, not
because one is for sale.
